Adoption Timeline

This is where we are tracking the timeline for our third adoption.
(Newest first - timeline begins chronologically at bottom):
  1. 30 Dec - Return to US with Julia
  2. 27/28 Dec - Immigration/Visa processing at US Embassy
  3. 26 Dec - Evening train back to capital
  4. 25 Dec - Gotcha Day.  Thank you God for this very special Christmas miracle
  5. 24 Dec - Passport Received in region
  6. 21-Dec - Obtain court decree - begin processing for birth certificate, passport (3 days),...
  7. 18-Dec - Trip 2 begins
  8. 14-Dec - Trip home - Trip 1 ends
  9. 13-Dec - Trip to US Embassy to sign required forms prior to leaving country
  10. 10-Dec - Court Day - Julia named our daughter by court - 10 day waiting period begins
  11. 25-Nov - Meeting our angel on Thanksgiving Day!  We give thanks for that!
  12. 23-Nov - Travel by train to remote region to visit orphanage.
  13. 22-Nov - Agency authority meeting in capital for approval to visit region.
  14. 19-Nov - Depart for Eastern Europe.
  15. 28-Oct - Plane tickets purchased.
  16. 27-Oct - Date received for in country agency appointment (November 22nd).
  17. 14-Oct - Dossier approved by in country facilitators and submitted to government agency.  May have a travel date within 2 weeks!
  18. 5-Oct - Dossier has arrived in birth country.
  19. 30-Sep - Complete dossier on it's way to birth country via Fed Ex.
  20. 29-Sep - Apostilled 171-H Favorable Determination Letter Received!
  21. 14-Sep - USCIS digital fingerprints complete!
  22. 3-Sep  - Had 26 documents apostilled at the state capital.  The dossier is complete except for our USCIS I171-H letter.
  23. 30-Aug - Received our FBI background check back and a USCIS Fingerprinting date for Sept. 14th!
  24. 21-Aug - The final, notarized home study received.
  25. 9-Aug - Draft homestudy received - now just to get it approved and off to the USCIS.
  26. 6-Aug - Medical paperwork complete with blue ink!
  27. 28-July - Got the last set of medical paperwork - we thought.  ;-(  Doctor didn't use blue ink as requested so we will get to go back and do that again.
  28. 16-July - Took the day off from work to do a bunch of paperwork at the county office building.  Obtained the dreaded county assessor letter (very hard to get in some places) and had about 20 documents county certified in preparation for having them authenticated/apostilled by NY state.
  29. 12-July - First official docs arrived in birth country.  Some documents started coming back that we had requested - employment letter, state background checks,...
  30. 10-July - Notarized second big package of 20 or so docs for the dossier.
  31. 8-July - Had our home study visit and sent off our first official documents to the birth country.
  32. 7-July - Fingerprinted digitally for NY state - twice each for mom and dad.
  33. 6-July - Sent in I-600A application to US immigration services (USCIS).
  34. 27-June - Notarized the first official docs for the birth country - a child specific request to let them know we are coming.  Needs to be county and state certified (apostilled) this week.  We also have a home study date!
  35. 23-June - Got our RR dossier and welcome package!
  36. 19-June - Next change of plans (last we hope) - Accepted an assignment through Reece's Rainbow for a little girl in Eastern Europe.  Sent in Promise Trust deposit to begin bringing her home.
  37. 12-June - Received package/paperwork for a potential adoption - destination Taiwan this time.  Some people never learn.  ;-)
  38. 2-June - Adoption #3 on hold - girl we were applying for was committed to another family
  39. 29-May - Held garage sale to raise money for special needs adoptions.
  40. 28-May - Sent first notarized paperwork to RR.
  41. 26-May - Submitted family profile to Serbia program
  42. 23-May -  First contact RR with our intent/request to adopt
  43.  May 2010 - Complete US re-adopt for our son from Ethiopia.  Begin planning fund raising garage sale for Memorial Day weekend to benefit Reece's Rainbow children
  44.  Mom begins following many adoptive families bringing home these special kids.
  45. Thanksgiving 2009 - Became aware of Reece's Rainbow through a fellow adoptive family
  46. July 2009 - Completed Adoption #2 (our fifth child) from Ethiopia
